Hobart, Oscar (father) Eddie and Roy

Shown in the newspaper clipping, dated October 2nd, 1940 are Oscar Styffe, Port Arthur timber contractor with three of his sons who are in the Canadian army. The boys, left to right are Bert, Lieutenant with the Canadian Forestry Corps, Edward, Lieutenant and Roy. 2nd Lieutenant,  both in 1st Battalion of the Lake Superior Regiment. Edward and Roy were guests of Mr. Styffe at a meeting of the Rotary Club last night. President O. F. Young referred to the fact that Mr. Styffe, the father had been born in Norway and that, making this country his home by choice, had proved his citizenship to the fullest possible extent in contributing three fine sons to  the services. “It is a reminder to some of us who take pride in being Canadians of several generations that, perhaps, we should be modest in our boasting,” said Mr. Young, “for it proves that there are other good people in the world and that many of them from Norway and other countries similarly situated are corning among us to make the best of citizens”. To Lieutenants Styffe he extended the wishes of the club and hoped that it would not be long before they and others proceeding with them to active service would be able to come home safe, enjoy “better times and happier days.”
